2/12/2019 03:10:00 AM

Governor Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa on Monday promised to employ additional 6,000 health workers to augment the manpower capacity of the sector in the state.

Bindow made the declaration while signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for reconstruction of 140 primary health care centres in the state.

NAN reports that the project is to be facilitated by European Union and other donor agencies in the state.

The governor reiterated his commitment toward improving the primary health care delivery system in the state.

“I am pledging to employ additional 6000 health workers to argument the sector,’’ Bindow said.

The governor noted that it was in recognition of viability of the health sector that the present administration had renovated all major health facilities across the three geo-political zones in the state.

He added that all the entitlements of health workers have also been settled in the state.

Bindow assured the development partners of the commitment of the state government towards timely completion of the projects.

The Acting Chairperson, state Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Batulu Mohammed, had earlier stressed that the project would kick-start with 37 clinics in the first phase.

Mohammed however said the health sector needed an additional 6,000 manpower for effective administration of the facilities.

Mr Olusoyi Olosunde, the Health Officer, UNICEF Bauchi field office, pledged the commitment of the donor agencies in the actualisation of the project to achieve their goals.

Rave4Buhari: N-Power beneficiaries in a massive rally to show support for Buhari's reelection

2/10/2019 01:30:00 AM

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the rally moved from Area One roundabout through the All Progressives Congress campaign office in Central area to the Old Parade Ground.

It was tagged, Rave for Buhari: Energising the FCT 4 Next Level, and involved volunteers from the 36 states and the FCT.

Some of the beneficiaries told NAN that their resolve to vote massively for Buhari at the presidential election scheduled for February 16 was to return him to consolidate on the good works.

An N-Power beneficiary under the N-Agro, Cooperative Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mr. Abdulwasiu Akanbi, said, “I am here to appreciate Buhari for creating jobs and empowering many of the youths in the country.”

Akanbi commended the Federal Government for successfully implementing the social investment programme, noting that it had brought succour to the youth who were hitherto roaming the streets in search of jobs.

“Today no fewer than 500,000 youths across the country are meaningfully engaged under this scheme, so there is reason to appreciate Buhari and support his re-election bid,” Akanbi said.

He further applauded the Federal Government’s efforts in combating insecurity and providing infrastructure, saying that it was another reason to vote for Buhari massively.

“For instance, the Mokwa-Jebba road to Ilorin which had been in a very deplorable condition has received the needed attention,’’ Akanbi added.

He, however, urged the Federal Government to intensify its efforts in the fight against corruption.

According to him, Buhari must tighten his belt in the fight against corruption because that is the major reason the country is lagging behind in terms of infrastructure.

Another beneficiary, Mr Ambrose Egwari, a teacher at Galadimawa Primary School, said that the programme had improved the standard of education in the country.

According to him, the infusion of N-Power volunteers to support teachers in schools has resulted in schools having more qualified teachers.

“This has caused more parents to withdraw their wards from the private schools to public ones,’’ Egwari said.

Mrs Udengwu Emilia-Uche, teacher at LEA primary school, Zuba said that the programme is filling the gaps in the education sector.

She said that the students were beginning to improve due to the availability of adequate teachers to meet their needs.

Emilia-Uche, while commending the management of the N-Power scheme for ensuring that the monthly N30,000 stipend was regular, urged the Federal Government to review it upwards.

Recruiting Npower volunteers without proper training is counterproductive ~ NUT

President of the Nigerian Union of Teacher (NUT), Nasir Idris, at the union's annual solemn assembly on Sunday, claimed that the idea of recruiting young men and women as teachers under the auspices of Npower to work for just two years without adequate training is counterproductive while arguing that some may even be engaged in double jobs and other related activities.

How FG is planning to take Npower to the next level

2/03/2019 01:15:00 AM

We plan to enhance the continued development of the existing beneficiaries, linking them to further economic opportunities whilst also expanding the Programme to take in more people. The Technology Innovation Programmes and the Skills Competency Programmes will also be expanded and scaled up.

On the sustainability of Social Investment programme:

"A credible Social Investment safety net as we have demonstrated is what every country must have in place for her people. It is not negotiable, if we desire to attain the stability and competitiveness of developed nations. Firstly, scripture teaches us from the foundation that there would always be poor people, so we must have a safety net for our poor and vulnerable.
Secondly, life is about ups and downs, as such, we must design a merit system that offers lifeline to our youths to pick up in life."

How fair the programme is:
Perhaps what is most fascinating and yet most troubling to the opposition is the process of transparency and equal access to everyone. These programmes and investment are not distributed through political nor religious patronage, but every interested Nigerian is able to apply and benefit with out knowing anyone, I mean anyone. This dividends of their democracy reaches down to every Nigerian regardless of the political party in the state, otherwise how do you explain that Rivers State, though a PDP-controlled State, got the highest number of N-Power Batch 1 beneficiaries simply because the highest number of applications came from the State. The question to ask is, did Nigeria ever saw this manner of fairness and inclusion in the 16 years of PDP? We know what they did with SURE-P where they say they spent over N500 billion for only 150,000 beneficiaries in the country and we in N-Power have invested about N150 billion as at December 2018 for over 500,000 genuine and identifiable beneficiaries, that is 30 per cent of what they spent for over 200 per cent more beneficiaries that they claim. If this is not doing more with less, you tell me what it is…that is what President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo stand for and represent.

Several sub-components and sub-division of Npower:
Graduate N-Power for unemployed young graduates with focus on full time paid volunteering in their various communities of residence be it at public schools (N-Teach), rural farms (N-Agro), primary health facilities (N-Health) and as community tax advocacy liaisons (N-Tax). These are 500,000 across the country in every 774 LGA earning N30,000 every month plus a computing tablet device.
Non-Graduate N-Power, which is our Skills to Entrepreneurship Programme that is reviving our Apprenticeship culture through Vocational and Technical Skills revolution. Engaging about 50,000 young Nigerians across Construction, Automobile, Hospitality, Technology Hardware & Software industries. Each beneficiary of this component obtains an exit tool kit valued no less than N250,000 in addition to a transport support stipend of N10,000 monthly whilst in the Programme.
