The Inspector General of Police (I-G) will now get N3.3 million annually as rent subsidy in the new emolument approved for the Nigeria Police Force by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Deputy and Assistant Inspectors-General of Police will get N3.02 million and N2.7 million respectively as rent subsidy.
It was also reported that a document attached to the approval letter showed details of the subsidy from a Constable to the I-G but silent on the salary.
The approval was conveyed to the I-G, through a letter dated Oct. 31 from the Office of the Executive Chairman, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Mr Richard Egbule.
A Commissioner of Police under the new arrangement will get up to N1.5 million, while Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police get N531,000 and N483,000 respectively.
A Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) gets N419, 000 while a Superintendent of Police (SP) gets N342, 000.
A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) gets N321, 000 while an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) I and II under the new arrangement will get N296, 000 and N271, 000 respectively.
Inspector of Police I and II get N254, 000 and N167, 000 while a Sergeant major, Sergeant and Corporal get N119,000, N96, 000 and N88, 000 respectively.
A Police Constable I and II get N86, 000 and N84, 000 respectively
The new salary and rent structure approved took effect from Nov. 1 2018 and would be funded from the treasury.
It will be recalled that in January 2008, late President Umaru Yar`Adua approved an increment in the minimum wage of policemen from N6, 000 to N26, 000 which was not implemented.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reduction in the cost of forms for the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), National Examinations Council (NECO), Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, announced the decision during the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
The change will take effect from January 2019.
The cost of JAMB UTME form will now cost N3,500 instead of N5,000, while for NECO it will drop from N11,350, to N9,850.

Dutse – No fewer than 30,000 petty traders in Jigawa would benefit from the Federal Government’s Microcredit Loan Scheme, otherwise known as ‘Trader Moni.’
The Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, made the disclosure in Dutse on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy visit to Emir of Dutse, Dr Nuhu Sunusi.

Osinbajo said the petty traders would be given either N5,000, or N15,000 or N20,000 to enhance their respective businesses.
‘‘We are here today in order to deepen our work with common man, because our major concern is how to improve the life of common man in Nigeria.
‘‘So, I want to assure you a minimum of 30,000 traders will benefit from this programme.
‘‘In the first instance, a trader will be given N10,000 loan, after settling that it will be increased to N15,000 and up to N20,000,’’ Osinbajo said.
In his remarks, the Emir thanked the Vice-President for the visit.
‘‘We thank you for coming to explain to us what the Federal Government is doing to assist the common man in Nigeria.
‘‘We’ve seen the difference already, particularly with regard to women empowerment and school feeding programme, ’’ the monarch said.
He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the money to enhance their businesses.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Osinbajo was in Jigawa for a one-day working visit, and he would launch some empowerment programmes initiated by both the federal and state governments. (NAN)

The Presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has urged Nigerians to reject the N-Power and Trader Moni of All Progressives Congress (APC) for jobs in better sectors in the country. Sowore lamented that while politicians reserve jobs in Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) among others for their children and relatives, they are going about distributing Trader-Moni to the masses.

“It is time for the masses to get jobs not through N-power but in NNPC and CBN,” he charged when he arrived the country from the U.S.

“These jobs should not be reserved for the children of politicians while Trader-Moni is reserved for your mothers and brothers.”


Sowore posited that the country would be a better place for all if its leaders had the interest of the people at heart, adding that it was time to hand over the baton of leadership to those with vision.

He noted, “It is time to take this country from those who have destroyed it. As we know, Nigerians are tired of the same old set of people who play politics of bitterness. As a revolutionary movement and a political party, we are determined to take this country from those who have destroyed Nigeria and give it back to people who are ready to make a success of the future of Nigeria. It is not by accident that people who are leading our movement are the young people of Nigeria, who have been left behind by the legacy political parties. Whether they are PDP or APC, we are putting an end to their reign come next year.”

According to him, the current crop of politicians has proven to be deficient in all spheres, hence the need for the change of governance, saying the country is in dire need of leaders who have understanding and practical approach to the many challenges it is facing.

“We cannot continue to vote people who continue to spend the country’s money on medical trips abroad because there are tired and ought to have retired, he stated. “They cannot continue to manage the affairs of the country for another four years. Some people are even saying we should wait for another four years, but I am sorry, we don’t have four more years to wait. In fact, we should have done this four years ago, and by now, be talking about second tenure. Since we didn’t do so last time, now is the time to retire Buhari back to Daura. Now is the time to retire Atiku, who is supposed to be a retired custom officer. It is time for him to go back to his village as well.”

He lamented that Buhari’s government could not meet the demands of N30, 000 minimum wage while they earn huge sums of money from tax-payers.

“You can imagine, the people who are saying they cannot pay the N30, 000 minimum wags are earning N14 million per annum. If you earn N30, 000 per month, you have needed to work for 35 years to earn N14 million. Their children are going to school abroad with our own money. It is time to demand our rights; enough is enough!”

Some young scammers in Kano metropolis have converted the ongoing TraderMoni registration exercise into a source of extorting money from potential beneficiaries of the scheme, Kano Chronicle can report.
The programme is a federal government initiative designed with a view to enlarging the citizen financial inclusion agenda for Nigerians who are petty traders regardless of their social class or political affiliation.
It was gathered that persons who were perceived to be conversant with the process are allegedly taking advantage of the poor public to extort money from them in the pretext of helping them access their share of the federal government money.
Some of the residents who spoke to our reporters expressed their worries about the authenticity of the exercise with some saying since commencement of the registration in the state, they have not seen anybody that has benefitted from the exercise.
They alleged that the exercise is being not regulated by any specific government agency in the state, hence the prospective beneficiaries are left with no option than to roam from one registration agent to another, who have turned the well-intended exercise into a money making venture at the detriment of the poor masses.
Kano Chronicle learnt that the self-acclaimed agents charge between N200 to N1500 as registration fees even before accessing the cash by the beneficiaries.
Ibrahim Sadiq, one of the victims, who spoke to our reporters said he registered three times in different places through different processes, adding that there was the one he registered using a form he bought at N200 and he had also registered through an agent that collected N500.
“Initially, the whole thing seems to be so real to me but I became skeptical when I was told that, one can apply as many times as possible. I have registered using a form I bought at N200, I also registered through an agent that collected N500 as a registration fee and I was introduced by a friend to register using some codes through my mobile phone. But up till this moment I have not received a penny and I have not seen single person that actually collected the money,” Sadiq said.
Another victim of the scam, Malama Sadiya Abubakar of Kawo quarters in Nassarwa local government, explained how she did her registration.
She said, “I heard about the scheme from a family member, that the federal government was sharing the sum of N10, 000 to the Nigerian youths through a code. I was told that one will send the code and it’s free with all networks across Nigeria. When you dial the code a popup menu will appear asking you of your details including full name, address before you finally input a four digit password to personalize the process.
“After a while, the coordinators will send you a message that the registration was successful. At first I tried it for about four times before it went through and sometimes when I’m almost get to the final stage they terminate the process saying there was an error.
“I’ve not really seen anyone who received the cash, but I’ve heard that they will first have to screen the people before they send the money and the money is sent to beneficiaries’ mobile phone in form of recharge card from where they would send it to their personal bank accounts.”
According to Isa Umar Olala, the story that government was sharing Abacha’s loot had gone viral and registration of possible beneficiaries had commenced in every ward with people paying some token to get registered.
Olala added that the authenticity of the whole process was not yet known.
Two million petty traders are targeted to benefit from the loan in all the states of the federation. It was gathered that Bank of Industry, which is deploying the new scheme to identify the beneficiaries after their registration, has engaged about 4, 000 enumerators for the exercise.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of PDP plans to scrap the current N-Power Programme of the All Progressive Congress (APC) if he won the 2019 Presidential Election.
According to Atiku Campaign Organisation, “Nigeria doesn’t need N-Power ” rather a more comprehensive approach to make them self-sufficient than depending on the government, the Economic Adviser to the Organisation, Mustapha Chike-Obi, said on Sunrise Daily, Nigeria’s 24/7 news TV, Channels Television on Monday.
N-Power programme is currently engaging 500, 000 graduates under the graduate unit of the job initiative programme, which provided them with tablet devices loaded with training materials to help them deliver at their places of primary assignment.
But the Atiku Campaign Organisation believed that the N-Power can provide a permanent solution to the problem of high rate of unemployment in Nigeria.
While speaking on how the Presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, plans to tackle unemployment, Chike-Obi said:

The Trader-Moni is currently one of the social investment programmes of the Federal Government which is currently being undertaken by the Bank of Industry. It provides an opportunity for petty traders. Daily Trust outlines 10 components of the programme for traders to understand better.
1. Philip Shimnom Clement Trader Moni is a collateral-free loan that ranges from N10,000 to N50,000 depending on your repayment.
2. All petty traders and artisans in Nigeria are eligible to access the loan.
3. Traders do not need Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to access the loan but must have a means of identification like the National Identity card or drivers licence.
4. The first loan of N10,000 can be accessed without Bank Verification Number (BVN), but will subsequently require a BVN and a bank account for higher loans up till N 50,000
5. Forms to access the social intervention programme is free as a trader only requires a valid phone number.
6. Strategic banks have been designated to repay the loans which are GTB, UBA, Ecobank, Union Bank, Union bank, Stanbic, Sterling, Wema, Fidelity, Heritage and Jaiz Bank.
7. Trader moni loan can be registered through a Trader Moni enumerator (also called “agent” in your area where they are strategically located to identify and register traders.
8. The Trader Moni will cover all the 36 states and the FCT.
9. Trader Moni has so far been launched in the states of Lagos, Kano, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Katsina, Osun, FCT, Cross River and Oyo
10. Over N20million worth of loans will be disbursed in the first phase of the programme.

FG to rehabilitate industrial development centres

The Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, Dikko Umaru Radda, has said that the Federal Government is in = the process of rehabilitating all the Industrial Development Centres (IDCs) across 23 states in the country.
Radda, speaking weekend in Owerri, while leading members of the Senate Committee on Industries on oversight functions, said that already the Federal Government had commissioned a study in collaboration with the African Development Bank (ADB) on how to rehabilitate the centres, the report of which had been submitted to government.

He said the private sector would be involved in the management of the centres, adding that the report was being studied after which modalities for the private sector would be spelt and advertised for interested investors.
He expressed regret at the dilapidated nature of the centres, stressing that most of the equipment were old and out of tune with the realities of the moment.

Earlier, chairman of the committee, Senator Sam Egwu, expressed dismay at the level of deterioration of facilities at the IDCs.

FG to employ over 1000 workers for Warri-Itakpe rail corridor


Over 1000 workers will be employed for the Warri- Itakpe standard gauge rail corridor , says the Federal Government .
Mr Fidet Okhiria , the Managing Director , Nigerian Railway Corporation , disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Lagos .
“It’ s about 320 km , about 12 stations and we have to engage people that will maintain the tracks, people that will work in the stations and sell tickets .
“ Also , technicians that will examine the train . So , we are going to engage close to over 1000 to maintain about 320 km track , both junior and senior .
“New employees can’ t just be sent there ; they must be trained .
“In order for them to be trained , we will be moving people from the existing staff , but we have to replace them . So we have to fill up those position before the new people will be trained and certify to be part of the train operations , ” he said .
NAN reports that NRC operates a one - year training programme for graduate staff and three months for the junior staff .
According to Okhiria , the 12 stations for the train service are still under construction, adding that temporary stations would be used pending completion .
He, however , said that the stations would be completed by the first quarter of 2019 , noting that some of the houses at the railway village were renovated recently for workers .
Okhiria said that a lot has been achieved , especially in the rail system under the current administration , with the purchase of more rolling stock and wagons .
